52 Week Crochet Challenge: Week 8 - Fix it or Frog it!

Stumbling around my blogroll the other day, I came across this 52 Week Challenge spearheaded by Julie of Red Berry Crochet. Why take on a year long challenge? Benefits: meet new people, share some projects, be inspired - my stash may even make it out of the tangled mess it's in and into an organized display (maybe?!?). I can't seem to wrap my brain around "catching up" on the 7 weeks I have missed, so I am jumping right in where we are.

Week 8: choose an unfinished project and "Fix it or Frog it".

5 Crochet Blogs Every Beginner Should Read!

My crochet-ducation started out with some determination, a single "I" hook and a couple balls of yarn. However, to say that "I taught myself to crochet" would be a massive disservice to those bloggers who, collectively, taught me everything I know! I scoured google and streamed YouTube videos one after another to learn even the basics, but my journey from that first set of leg warmers has been paved by others. Featured here are 5 bloggers that were instrumental in my first year of learning to crochet beautiful things!

Window Herb Garden v2.0

Repotting done and these babies are soaking up the sun.  Last year was a massive, dare I say epic fail with the bugs and killing of all the living things. Mr. Smarty pants pilot thinks my chances of success will be higher if I water them. Pffft.

Crocheted Doll Makeover

Last October, Glen asked THE question being asked in almost every house..."Norah, what do you want to be for Halloween?". Yes, she is three years old, but we probably shouldn't have been so surprised at her answer:

"NOT a princess!"

This was quickly followed with: 

"Maybe a chicken?"

Maia's Hat

This hat was yours. You won't wear it, but it will always be yours. Your days, every single one, were a precious gift and I wish that we could have come sooner. Love you, baby girl.

Jedi Master Yoda

Made up of mostly spheres and cylinders, this pudgy little jedi master was so much easier than Caleb's dog. For a few minutes, I got a bit hung up on the fingers and toes, and made the mistake of suggesting that Yoda's hands could possibly be "ovalish" and stacked on top of a walking stick. That went over about as well as you can expect, with a raised eyebrow and a "Julie, things can't always be easy and simple. " So basically, suck it up and figure it out.

"It's exactly what I wanted!"

Caleb has been feeling left out of the "pillow pals" scene lately. Norah and Will both have these cozy pillows that transform into a stuffy and to add to the insult, Will's bear even shines stars in alternating colours onto the ceiling.

"Mom will you crochet me a dog? One of those pillow dogs? It could look like Chaz, with one ear up and one down, one leg a different colour, and it could be blue....or lots of different blues. Oh and his mouth could be doing this (cue dog face impersonation). And then, you could put a couple different patches of colour on his body and I could name him Patches.  "
